Damn that was rough! Today's lesson will deal with the most popular label in existence today: The "Void If Removed" Sticker. Verizon is putting the "Void If Removed" sticker technology to use in a variety of innovative ways. First, when you visit Best Buy or Circuit City to make that phone or PDA purchase you will notice some new stickers on the product. One sticker applied to the Verizon Wireless T-22 Cell Phone reads, "Void if removed from the store without paying". This is a fancy wancy way of telling the consumer that shoplifting will not be tolerated. Insignificant you think? Well, this tiny label made over two billion dollars for the Sticker and Label Industries in 2004. I wanted to get a closer look at these labels so I stole a box of them off a shipping truck last week. There was a sticker on the back of the truck that read: "Void if removed from this truck". The box of labels I stole had a sticker on it that read: "Void if opened". I wondered just how was somebody supposed to get into their new box of "Void if Removed" stickers in light of the warning on the box. At home that night I put the unopened box of "Void" stickers on the coffee table and stared at it for a good hour before opening it. Sure enough, the "Void if opened" sticker was bogus. The next day I took the 10,000 labels into our main grocery store and secretly applied them to all the boxes of cereal and gallons of milk in the store. Sales of cereal and milk increased in that store a whopping 290%. So, what's the lesson for us here today? I'll tell you what the lesson for us here today is. The lesson here for us today is, never get involved in a project started by Lucille. We'll be right back after these short messages from some of our commercial free clients.
