That can't be right! Well folks today's show is not going to have much to do with Saving The Date Shipping Box Labels as I promised you. Instead I want to tell you of a musical experience.
The above album was produced in 1969 by a band known as The Quicksilver Messenger Service. They were an almost underground group not interested in selling records but in it for the fun and excitement of performing. Side A of this record is 30 minutes of their rendition of the Bo Diddley song "Who Do You Love". It was recorded live at the Filmore's East and West. Another Bo Diddley song, "Mona" is on side B but I only listened to side A. This band had two phenomenal lead guitarists, Duncan and John. They were a tightly knitted outfit and never missed a note. Quicksilver was a product of the San Francisco invasion of music in the late 60's. The Greatful Dead and Jefferson Airplane admired them. But this is only the beginning of the musical saga I want to tell today. Because of the similarities in name, when I think of Quicksilver I automatically think of The Quicksassy Pony Blowers. The Pony Blowers are Michael Jacksons discovery from San Simeon, California. This is a New Age/Hardcore/Retro/Grindcore/Numedal Band with a unique blend of Savagery and Pure Rock and Roll. Their story is of interest to me. The manager of The Quicksassy Pony Blowers is Brittany Brown. She came in contact with the StickerNews nearly one year ago. After directing her to the Label Exchange Sticker makers for band stickers she stayed in contact with us here at the StickerNewz Report. I am seeing more and more of the Pony Blower's Band Stickers on cars all the time. Not long after their debut album, "Silent Night Horrible Night" the lead guitarist, Henderson Rigby suddenly died. The cause of his death is still unclear. When Brittany wrote me with that news I was devastated and could not write for days. When I did begin writing again I did a revised version of Eleanor Rigby. The obvious last name similarity inspired this song:
Henderson Rigby died in the
church and
All the lonely people,
Crept into the city
All the lonely people,
I look at all those lonely people, da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da I look at all those lonely people, da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da.....
.....Leasing a penthouse
All the lonely people,
The Pony Blowers recovered and are doing splendid work. They recruited a new (female) lead guitar and are in the midst of their "Lung Adviser" tour. Keep your eyes open for a venue near you.
I'm John A. Orther
